Do fall right, McCurtain County style.
Fall means festivals and events (and some pretty impressive foliage) out here. Leave your PSL order behind and experience fall in real time in southeastern Oklahoma. Between now and November, there are a number of festive events happening throughout our county.
Idabel Fall Festival – Oct. 5, 2019
Get that main street feel in Idabel during their annual Fall Festival. Since 1986, this free fest has been bringing all things food and entertainment to downtown – drawing upwards of 3,000 people. One of the main events? A classic chili cook-off. Make your way through every kind of chili you can handle, and 20+ other food booths, arts and crafts shows, live music and more. Kids can hang, too, with plenty of activities to hit up.
Wright City Lumberjax Festival – Oct. 12, 2019
Axe throwing. Sawing. Flannel. But, you know, also family-friendly. This annual fest has been going strong for 15 years and offers a bit of something for everyone – from live music and a 5k to a quilt show and horseshoe tournament. And all that local flair you expect in this area.
Come out for the big talent show, Little Mr. & Miss Lumberjax Pageant, art displays, wildlife exhibit, tons of fest food and more. Kids can enjoy face painting, a petting zoo and the undeniable allure of a giant bounce house. New this year? A karaoke contest. Yeah, so start prepping those vocal chords now. We expect you to bring it.
Beavers Bend Folk Festival & Craft Show – Nov. 8-10, 2019
Get your craft (and folk) on. In the middle of Beavers Bend State Park. This three-day affair at Forest Heritage Center is one of the area’s most popular fall fests – drawing as many as 17,000 attendees each year and more than 70 vendors.
Time travel and experience turn-of-the-century arts and demonstrations, Celtic and early American music and maybe a turkey leg or two. Outdoor food court? Check. Wine and woodworking? Yep. Getting your holiday shopping done in the middle of a pretty impressive forest? Why not. Take a train ride – or ride a horse while you’re at it. And keep the kids entertained with a petting zoo and toy-decorating station. Best part? It’s free and open to the public.
From big festivals to live music events and artisan workshops, fall steps up to the plate around here.
