The big chill is slowly winding down, and it’s time to start planning your spring getaway! Not sure where to start? How ’bout McCurtain county? With miles of trails, mountains, rivers, and streams, it’s the perfect excuse to leave the office behind and get outside. Here’s everything you need for a spring weekend in McCurtain County.

Friday: On the Road Again

Take the day off and head and head to paradise. Arrive at your cabin of choice in the afternoon, and marvel at the homey lodge stylings, luxury amenities, and rustic comfort. Switch the hot tub temp to high, and put some meat in the fridge to marinate before grilling. More on that later.

Grab some bikes and head to Beaver’s Bend State Park for an afternoon ride. Cruise along winding streams and race through mountainous trails with the Ouachitas towering around you. Want a slower pace? Ride along the water’s edge at Mountain Fork River. Afterward, spend happy hour throwing horseshoes by your porch, then put the meat on the grill. Relax around a fire, or enjoy a bubble bath. You’ve got a big day tomorrow!

Saturday: Rise up early in the morn’

McCurtain County is home to some of Oklahoma’s best hunting. Grab your permit and head to the Red Slough to search for ducks, deer, black bears, turkeys, and more. If fishing‘s more your speed, pick a guide and meet them at Mountain Fork River, where hungry bass and trout love to nibble.

Not much for hunting? Show the local fauna some love with a tour of Beaver’s Bend on horseback, or take in some bird watching at the Red Slough Wetlands (see if you can spot the elusive bald eagle!) After you’re finished, enjoy the beauty of the Beaver’s Bend with kayaks and canoes. Prefer something solo? Take on the Ouachitas’ ample hiking trails, or play the front nine at one of McCurtain County’s lush golf courses.

If your spirit of adventure still hasn’t been quenched, kick things up a notch with ATV riding and motorcycling through McCurtain County’s winding roadways. Maxed out on adrenaline? Unwind with a massage at a local spa.

And because it wouldn’t be a vacation if you had to do all the cooking, finish your evening in Broken Bow or Idabel with fine dining and country cooking made from Southeastern Oklahoma bounty.

Sunday: It’s not goodbye, it’s ‘see ya later’

Fuel up with brunch in town, and grab a photo in the mountains for your scrapbook. And because you could never do it all in one trip, start planning your next visit to McCurtain County. Lucky for you, summer vacation is just around the corner.
