The First Americans Museum (FAM) opened in 2021 to celebrate and share the rich cultures, history and resilience of Oklahoma’s First American Nations. In one place, visitors experience the collective histories of 39 distinctive First American Nations in Oklahoma today.
Construction began in 2006 but hit a pause in 2012 when state funding ran out. The partially constructed building sat dormant for nearly seven years, until construction resumed in January 2019, when a new agreement partnered the city of Oklahoma City and the Chickasaw Nation, who then took the lead on funding to finish the project.
Thanks to the NMTC program, a critical funding gap was filled, and the stunning new museum welcomes more than 200,000 visitors each year.
